NovaraJazz 2016|17

NovaraJazz 2016|17

The NovaraJazz 2016/2017 Season is the XIV edition. It begins in October with KUDOKU – Daniele Ninarello & Dan Kinzelman, the first NovaraJazz dance and music co-production; it was also featured at the Venice Biennale Danza. The season continues until April with artists from the national and international jazz scene: the Italian premiere of Sudo Quartet, a pan-European quartet composed of four heroes of free improvisation, Joëlle Léandre, Carlos Zingaro, Sebi Tramontana and Paul Lovens; The Electrics (Axel Dörner, Sture Ericson, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Raymond Strid); Davide Calvi in trio with Stefano Profeta and Marco Puxeddu in the Chopin Revisited performance; an exceptional and exclusive trio composed of the “sacred monsters” of contemporary jazz Antonio Zambrini, Paolino Dalla Porta and Manhu Roche; Two of mind, Dallo Swing al Bebop is the voice and piano duo show of Gigi Lanzani and Filippo Rodolfi; for the first time in Italy the Bobby Bradford Quartet featuring Vinny Golia (Bobby Bradford, Vinny Golia, Bernard Santacruz and Paal Nilssen-Love); the new NovaraJazz production, the result of a period of residence by artists in Novara, Emanuele Parrini Quartet + Taylor Ho Bynum (Taylor Ho Bynum, Emanuele Parrini, Dimitri Grechi Espinoza, Giovanni Maier and Andrea Melani); the improvised music by Fabrizio Puglisi in duo with Günter Baby Sommer; and the NovaraJazz Collective with the direction of maestro Alberto Mandarini for the International Jazz Day.

The Taste of Jazz exhibitions are confirmed as the weekly appointment that brings young jazz artists from Northern Italy to the stage of Opificio – Cucina and Bottega: Chicken Race, Pigreco, The Essence Quartet, Damn! Oragn trio, Samoa Wedding Trio, Emanuele Francesconi Trio, Radar, Roberta Brighi Sextet, New Bross Jazz Gang, Satoyama, Trio Quarter, ABC Trio, Flight Quartet, Johnny Lapio & Arcote Project, Bang, Rhodes Project, Black & White Trio, Nido Workshop, Funkin’ Monks, Fuel Quarter, Francesco Chiapperini InSight and Andrea Trecate Trio.

NovaraJazz season goes on with its summer version and it confirms itself as an appointment able to trigger ever new relationships between music, places and people. The focus is on young Italian jazz with the artistic residence at Cascina Bullona in Magenta, which combines the Hobby Horse trio of Dan Kinzelman, Joe Rehmer and Stefano Tamborrino with Gabrio Baldacci, Filippo Vignato and Glauco Benedetti, giving birth to the Ghost Horse sextet . The Broletto main stage is witness of the return of Enrico Rava in duo with Louis Moholo, in a unique project. The exclusive project by Marcin Masecki and Banda Filarmonica of Oleggio directed by maestro Francesco Carcello, the musical research of Arabic music with Gordon Grdina’s Haram, the Italian premiere of the new jazz sound of Binker & Moses, the ensemble that looks at the Africa Dinamitri Jazz Folklore and the great mystical and ancestral journey of Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids are the protagonists of the evenings at Broletto in Novara. Magmatic Quartet is the quartet born exclusively for NovaraJazz and that brings together Louis Moholo, Gianluca Petrella, Alexander Hawkins and Giovanni Guidi. NovaraJazz 2016 collaborates for the occasion with Young Jazz of Foligno, hosting Filippo Vignato (winner of the Best New Talent of the Top Jazz 2016) in trio with, Yannick Lestra and Attila Gyarfas.

NovaraJazz is not just concerts and is completed with a series of collateral activities: concerts with tasting of local food and wine products in the historic places of Novara and its district for the Taste of Jazz festival; the photo exhibition at Opificio with Jean-Pierre Maurer photographs; dance evenings with Silent Party® and the U.P.O. Party of young students of the Università del Piemonte Orientale; two days of StreetJazz with more than 50 concerts in the streets of the center of Novara and involving thirteen music institutes in Northern Italy (Conservatorio Antonio Vivaldi di Alessandria, Istituto di Musica Giuseppe Verdi di Asti, Conservatorio Giorgio Federico Ghedini di Cuneo, Conservatorio Guido Cantelli di Novara, Conservatorio Arrigo Boito di Parma, Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi di Torino, Conservatorio Nicolò Paganini di Genova, Conservatorio Giuseppe Nicolini di Piacenza, Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi di Como, Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi di Milano, Conservatorio Luca Marenzio di Brescia, Accademia Nazionale del Jazz di Siena e Conservatorio Giacomo Puccini di La Spezia); the Street Food trucks in Piazza della Repubblica; events dedicated to children in collaboration with Libreria La Talpa dei Bambini of Novara and with workshops dedicated to reading, music and painting; the editorial presentations in three meetings with authors who dealt with the theme of jazz in various facets (Jean-Pierre Maurer, Daniela Veronesi and Alessandro Barbaglia); and the usual vinyl fair Primavera Vinile.
